Why is Jaipur known as The Pink City?

In 1876, when Queen Victoria’s son, Albert Edwards, the then Prince of Wales, who later earned the crown of being King Edward VII, the Emperor of India, was travelling to India. As pink colour is considered to be the colour of warm hospitality, Maharaja Ram Singh ordered the whole city of Jaipur to be painted in Terracotta Pink Colour for the welcoming of the prince and other royal guests. During his entire journey, Prince Albert Edward many times referred to Jaipur as the Pink City, and the name has been stuck from them. During his visit, Maharaja Ram Singh also built a grand concert hall, and it was named The Albert Hall in the honour of the prince. Till date, many tempo traveller booking in Jaipur take place, as a group of visitors are always there to see this concert hall which now graces Ram Niwas Public Garden.
